-FUPPETS- Science Video of The Day!

The Scanning Electron Microscope was an amazing invention. The machine allowed scientists to bombard a sample with electrons and "read" the resulting "feedback", allowing for some of the most detailed images of the microscopic world.

This is a close-up shot of a staple going through paper.

The current crop of instruments used in modern-day microscopy are used to see objects even smaller than what a electron microscope can see. We are talking molecules and individual atoms here!
Physicist Jordan Gerton, assistant Professor of Physics at the University of Utah describes his lab equipment, with which he can see individual molecules and atoms. He describes it as "Atomic Force Microscopy."

The ability to "see" so deep into our reality gives scientists a very powerful tool. Without such devices the dream of nano-bots that can repair our internal organs or remove cancer from our bodies or microscopically repair damaged spinal columns would not be possible.
