-FUPPETS- Needs to Catch Up

Thurston Moore, of -FUPPETS- House Band SONIC YOUTH, has dropped his new slab on the world. -FUPPETS- will have to tune the sonic life. Chck out a track from the new album. It is called Benediction. Thurston's like the reverse Neil Young. He started off with massive skronk and is ending at soft introspection. Weird. Is that because Neil is Canadian?

-FUPPETS- Video Of The Day: Thurston Moore

In honor of the upcoming 2010 Record Store Day, -FUPPETS- is glad to bring you a clip of Thurston Moore discussing his first records, record labels, and record stores. Many thanks to Richard Gajdos for the link to this bad-ass shit.

The first records that -FUPPETS- can remember owning were children's music crap. The first 7" singles were the ones from the Disney storybooks! Those were excellent. The first record purchased to rock with was Def Leppard's debut, On Through The Night, bought at a K-Mart at age 9. Crazy!

-FUPPETS- Video Of The Day

Many thanks to Adolfo, one of the crew over at the Sonic Youth Gossip Forum, for sharing the link to this little gem. What follows is a cover of an old Burt Bacharach song that the UK group Naked Eyes had a huge hit with in the early 80's, (There's) Always Something There To Remind Me. This one is done by Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore, Jim O'Rourke, and some dude from Wilco.

To add an extra bit of spice to today's Video Of The Day, here is -FUPPETS- House Band Sonic Youth performing a B-side cut that is one of their greatest songs ever, sung by the main-man Lee Ranaldo.

NEW YORK NOISE - Thurston Moore & Byron Coley

A debt is owed to Georgekrz, a fellow Sonic Youth fanatic, for providing the link to this great 15 minute clip of Thurston Moore and Byron Coley introducing a Pere Ubu video, then Sonic Youth's Diamond Sea video, after which it is critiqued by the kids, which made -FUPPETS- day.

Thurston Moore and his 'zine Archive

VBS.TV brings us yet another fabulous short doc, this time with noted filmmaker Lance Bangs filming Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth and his incredibly diverse and exhaustive collection of poetry one-sheets, music scene 'zines, and DIY publications. It seems that Thurston ran out of records to collect so he expanded his ephemera collection.

SONIC LOVE

The good folks over at Brightest Young Things have published a two part interview with the skronk-meister supreme, the venerable and irrascible Thurston Moore, and skronk-buddy partner-in-crime number one Byron Coley.

The pair have teamed up to release a book called NO WAVE - Post Punk. Underground. New York. 1976-1980. No Wave was a flash of freak noise, a turbulent sonic orgasm in the swollen, seeping, infected anal sphincter of New York City. The groups that composed the No Wave scene were actively seeking to destroy music. They wanted to perform psycho-sonic-surgery upon the world and did so through what many people would call severely non-musical sounds. Those sounds paved the way for many of the most elemental and innovative and avant-garde rock groups that came after, including the -FUPPETS- Official Greatest Band Of All Time, SONIC YOUTH.

Here is the first part, an Interview with Byron Coley.

Here is the second part, an Interview with Thurston Moore

Long may the skronk reign supreme...
