If you are anywhere near Houston, Texas this upcoming weekend (April 17-19) and you love getting your hands on excellent, cheap books, then you need to get your ass over to the George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston. The Friends of The Houston Public Library are holding their annual Book Sale, and every year it is greater than ever.
There are countless different categories of books to be bought, and a large selection of children's books. All proceeds go to the Houston Public Library. Many of these books are discards from the stacks, as well as many books donated by sponsors and benefactors from their own estates and personal libraries. Here is the schedule.
Friday, April 17, 4:30pm - 9pm (Member's Preview Sale. You can become a member at the door by paying the $25 yearly membership fee. This is the best time to get access to some of the more rare and valuable books available)
Saturday, April 18, 9am - 5pm (Open to all at no charge. Each book is individually priced. Most hardbacks are $5.00, and most paperbacks are $1.00)
Sunday, April 19, 11am - 4pm
(Sunday is "Bag Day" at $10/bag, bags are provided! You get a paper grocery sack and stuff it with as many books as it will hold, all for $10.00! No limit to how many bags you can get!)
If you are a voracious reader this is your Shangri-la. There is no better book sale in the City of Houston.
