-FUPPETS- Video Of The Day: They Might Be Giants

Today's -FUPPETS- Video of The Day is an old favorite from the kings of nerd-rock, They Might Be Giants. After nearly a couple of decades the realization hit that this song is essentially a riff on the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey.

THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS - The Statue Got Me High

The statue got me high
The statue got me high
The monument of granite sent a beam into my eye
The statue made me die
The statue made me die
It took my hand it killed me and it turned me to the sky
The stone it called to me (and now I see the things the stone has shown to me)
A rock that spoke a word (an animated mineral it can be heard)
And though I once preferred a human beings company
They pale before the monolith that towers over me

The statue got me high
The statue got me high
The truth is where the sculptors chisel chipped away the lie
The statue made me fry
The statue made me fry
My coat contained a furnace where there used to be a guy
The stone it called to me (and now I see the things the stone has shown to me)
A rock that spoke a word (an animated mineral it can be heard)
And as the screaming fire engine siren filled the air
The evidence had vanished from my charred and smoking chair
And what they found was just a statue
Standing where the statue got me high
And what they found was just a statue
Standing where the statue got me high

And now it is your turn (your turn to hear the stone and then your turn to burn)
The stone it calls to you (you cant refuse to do the things it tells you to)
And as the screaming fire engine siren fills the air
The evidence will vanish from your charred and smoking chair
And what they found was just a statue
Standing where the statue got me high
And what they'll find is just a statue
Standing where the statue got you high

man i never got into this song. it was apollo 18, the album that marked the beginning of the end of my love affair with tmbg. it started out strong with ana ng and fizzled out with turn around. maybe i should give a listen to the albums after this one. but it tears me up everytime i hear that damn malcolm in the middle theme song.

i remember seeing 2010 at the theaters when i was 10 and being bored out of my mind. and when the whole mess was over i was left wondering what the hell i had just seen. at that point i hadn't seen 2001 but i don't think it would have helped any.

I agree that Apollo 18 was the beginning of the end as far as TMBG goes, and stay the hell away from the new stuff, but I love this song.
2001 was interesting but boring.
2010 was even more so.
